Charles Winston Green (September 2nd, 1945 Memphis Tenessee USA). Charli Green Bigband is a professional orchestra conducted by Charles W. Green.
After the Music High School Charli worked as a trumpettist with the US-airforce Band. With this orchestra he first toured the United States and later in Spain. He studied at the conservatory in Madrid (Spain) trumpet (major) and followed jazz- and improvisation lessons with Lou Bennet en Vince Benedetti. He also followed master classes with a.o. James Stamp and conducting courses with Perry White.
In 1970 Charles came to Holland to follow up his trumpetstudies at the Maastricht Conservatory with Wim Groot (at that time principal solotrumpettist at the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam). Also he studied composition with Math Niel and received behaalde de B-akte trompet met de aantekening Bachtrompet.
From 1981 Charles Green was attached to the Amsterdamconservatory as professor in trumpet, ensemble- and bigbandleader at the jazzdepartment. Since 2010 he is retired but still gives privat lessons. Besides he also does clinics and workshops wich are supported by Roy Benson Windinstruments where he recently developed his own Charli Green Signature trumpet. When he is not performing and teaching he writes and arranges for several ensembles next to his own Charli Green Bigband.
